A Rooster, a Song and Laughing Out Loud

June 5, 2020

As some of you may know, I am at Phrog and Munkey Folk Ranch by myself for most of the week while Munkey is back in the metro mess financing our dream.

Last night I decided to enjoy some time on the back porch watching the hummingbirds fly around.  There I was watching the sunset, listening to the hummingbirds and enjoying some peach and tranquility.  Then a rooster crow broke the silence.  What was a rooster doing crowing at sunset?  What would make a rooster crow at sunset? Crazy Rooster...My thoughts led me down a strange and twisting chain until I arrived at a song that I once learned at some camp I went to as a child.

Picture it:

Me sitting on the back porch

Hummingbirds humming

Me singing out loud

Hummingbirds coming closer to check me out

Me laughing out loud at the silliness of the song

Hummingbirds leaving to return to their nests.

You challenge today is to come  up with another verse to this silly song.  Oh, and next time you are in Hext,  Texas come sit with me on the back porch, the rooster will give you directions to our yard...

The Rooster

We had this hen

No eggs would she lay.

We had this hen

No eggs would she lay.

My wife said, "Honey, we're losing money

Cause we got this hen

No eggs will she lay".

And then that rooster

Got into our yard

And took that hen

Right off of her guard.

She's laying eggs now

Like she never used to

Ever since that Rooster

Got into our yard.

We had this cow

No milk would she give.

We had this cow

No mild would she give.

My wife said, "Honey, we're losing money

Cause we got this cow

No milk will she give."

And then that Rooster

Got into our yard

And caught our milk cow

Right off of her guard.

She's giving eggnog

Like she never used to

Ever since that Rooster

Got into our yard.

We had a dog

No pup would she give...

Until that rooster go into our yard.

She's having bird dogs

Like she never used to.

Your turn!
